SCS
Bottle-d
An excellent day for our middle-division sides in the County Cup
saw
Bottles Res
enjoy the biggest win, unfortunately their victims were fellow
CSSFL side
SCS.
Man of the Match Glen Day produced a dazzling display, netting a
hat-trick including a sublime shot from the halfway line for the
second time this season. Phil Childs, Robbie Freeman and Chas
Bailey each collected two apiece. Justin Brown, Joe Hayes and
substitute Paul Dare completed a miserable day for the very
sporting SCS, who added to their own misery by putting through
their own goal.
Morecambe Wanderers
won at AC Malone Res. With six goals being shared,
Ben Nicholls atoned for an earlier own goal by netting the
winner. Simon Lewis, Dave Gulliver and Paul Hannington had been
on target earlier.
Fox
strolled to a massive victory in Hitchin against Walsworth.
Simon Flecknell (hat-trick), Gary Henniker
(two), Josh Watson (two) and Richard Veness on the mark.
White Horse’s
excellent win at Arlon was tarnished as Jamie
Robertson’s leg was broken as he scored from a free-kick. A
defender had charged out to close the ball down and caught him.
He had an operation in Hemel on Sunday. Jason Lovelock
(hat-trick), Frazer Triggs and Gary Leask were also on target.
They meet Fox in round three.
Dun Cow Res
had a tough encounter, and after Jason Drackford’s strike forced
extra-time, Langleybury Cricket Club were seen off on penalties.
Peartree
beat Hitchin side Litten Tree.
Michael Bunker grabbed a brace from good crosses before Andrew
Black’s first goal of the season by way of a superb towering
header completed the win.
Sporting
their new kit, kindly provided by their sponsors,
Putterills recorded
a comfortable win over Hatfield side Cavendish Arms. They
dominated the first-half, taking the lead when David Banks
finished from Richard Eldridge's pass. Ian Woods headed home
from a corner and then volleyed his second before Banks made it
four just before the break from Craig Dillnutt's cross. They
made it hard for themselves in the second-half, conceding a
penalty, which was converted and going down to ten men when
Charlie Anderson was dismissed. A Pete Morrison penalty put them
four in front again but Woods missed a third penalty of the
match to deny him a hat-trick. Cavendish netted two more late
on.
Emperors Head
made the breakthrough at
Queen's
Park Rangers when Christian Goodyear cut in from
the left and drilled home into the far corner. QPR looked for an
equaliser, but were halted when Gary Saunders broke up an
attack, a one-two with Sam Archer saw him supply Goodyear with
another. Danny Hillard produced a pin-point cross for
an unmarked Steve Harris to bury a simple header before Michael
Gwillian rounded off the win with twenty minutes remaining from
Joe Chilton’s assist.
Sawbridgeworth Crowns were beaten by
Pin Green.
Dave Baldwin, Graeme Kear and Alex Hamer netted.
Pig and Whistle
saw off Wanderers. John Johnston and Scotty
Durham netted. They now meet Peartree in the second of the all-CSSFL
ties.
Pied Piper
were two men and two goals down at East Herts. The fought back
to force extra-time through Steve Teale’s
penalty and Chris Bunker,
but tiredness set in.
Royal Oak
had Bryan Every and Dave Pateman dismissed before the twenty
minute mark, so it was all downhill from there. Albie Stafford
did get them back in it, but Fox and Hounds ran out comfortable
winners.
A much weakened Old Social side fought
hard against Hitchin Division One high-flyers The Park. Stuart
Archer was their goal hero with a fine hat-trick, the third of
which was a wonderful individual effort to set up a tense
finish, but The Park managed to hang on to win
by the odd
goal in seven.
Tom Tiddlers Tavern
forfeited against Thundridge United due to player shortage.
After their first defeat last week, Premier Division leaders
Mallard
came unstuck again against
Probuild.
Ian Baker (two) and Craig Reynolds were on target in defeat.
Steve Skinner, John Vooght, Gary Pomfret and Tony Lister grabbed
the important goals.
Bottles
led through a twenty yard strike from Piers Le-Grand and Wayne
Dailly’s good finish. However,
Marquis of Lorne
pulled one back before the break when Tom Younger netted
following Lee Metselaar’s through-ball. Younger then equalised
with a terrific strike from Darren Wilson’s flick. However,
despite Younger then being sent-off, Ade Barry almost won it for
them, but his shot crashed down from the underside of the bar.
Only some late goals saw
Dun Cow
confirm their comfortable win over
Broadhall.
Adam Furness (two), Rikki Doyle (two) and Shaun Marshall notched
for the men in white.
A terrific solo strike from James Brewster gave
J.A.P. Builders
a two goal lead against
Bedwell Athletic.
Unfortunately, whilst frustrations by the players weren’t
helping matters, a totally neutral fan caused the game to be
abandoned after 50 minutes by abusing the referee from the
sidelines. A decision is to be made on the outcome.
The solitary Division One game saw the young
Stevenage Colts Old
Boys
team well beaten. Pete Farr struck home the
first for Breachwood Lions at the far post before Adam
Burnage made it two. Both had come from Wayne Gardner throw-ins.
Michael Weeks drilled home before Gardner flicked a pass round
the last defender for Captain Danny Dye to drive home the fourth
goal before the break. Burnage arrived late in the box to steal
another goal before Colts showed some promised. Lions ‘keeper
Graham French was beaten by Danny Liversidge. Gardner lobbed one
home from Ian Canning’s pass and Adam Jefferies managed to
scramble the ball in before another Colts consolation. Oliver
Whisker netting from the spot. Canning finished the game with a
fine diving header.
After a slow start,
Division
Three leaders ProCladd
led at half-time thanks to James Tyrer’s header. They upped it
after the break, the impressive Tyrer completing a hat-trick.
Charlie Barnett and Neil Henderson also got on the score sheet
thanks mainly to Danny Halliday, who made three of the goals
against hapless Hogshead.
As the chasing pack continue to take points off eachother,
Stevenage Leisure
were battered. After a fairly even 20 minutes,
A1 Trophies finally made some of there possession count
with a beautiful shot from James Harrod coming of both posts
before creeping in. The lead was soon doubled as Greg Bradbury
slotted home and he netted again with a cheeky lob after a crisp
pass from Craig Longman. A1 were defending a second wind from
Leisure before they raised it and Paul Tully calmly slotted home
after a great kick by ‘keeper Matt Stanton. Lewis Benn’s shot
was touched in by Michael Forecast before the final nail in the
coffin came as Tully scored his second.
MBDA
led through Louis Hare’s close-range finish from Sam
Bickerstaff’s low cross.
King Pin United
were level through James Wyatt, who turned and fire home. They
grabbed two in quick succession after the break. Dave Holmes
pounced on some defensive hesitancy and Danny Lingwood rounded
Andy Gibb and slotted home. MBDA came back, Bickerstaff lashed
home at the near post before Kyle Watson grabbed the equaliser
on the turn.
MC Racing
moved up a couple of places thanks to Oliver
Wallace (two), Richard O’Donovan and Anthony Koop against
Rapidsource,
for whom the prolific Ben Coles scored another two.
Good strikes from Tony Davies and Sam Lawrence
put Twin Foxes
up at half-time. Jason Aldridge made it three
shortly afterwards before Chequers woke up through
strikes from Carl Thompson and Matt Ward. Leslie Chappell
extended the lead before a Thompson penalty set up a tense
finish.
Stevenage Fencing
leapt back to the top of Division Four in style after the
disappointment of losing three points.
Woolmer Green Foxes
were on the end of a real lesson in their debut season. Stan Matthews
set them on their way from 30 yards before Neil Roskilly
supplied Marvin Hall with the first of his haul. Hall netted
three more before half-time, whilst Roskilly, Kev Fehmi and an
Alan Widdows penalty extended the lead somewhat. Roskilly scored
again, and just when he thought he’d completed his hat-trick,
Hall poked in on the line to deny him by netting his sixth. Tom
Bowgett made it a round dozen low across the ‘keeper from the
left.
Lee Wilson (two), Dean Allen (two), Mark Outram and Russell Bull
netted as Nirankari SS
Res
saw off Athletico
Timebridge
(Matt Grima).
North Herts Celtic
pretty much controlled much of the first-half, but didn’t play
well, though they did take the lead on 15 minutes through Jamie
Hatch. They extended the lead on the hour through Darren Curry.
Coach and Horses’ Andy Nash scored a cracking goal with
ten minutes left before they were denied a penalty shout late
on.
An amazing fourth successive clean sheet (three in the league)
saw Roebuck Gate
gain another win. Ian Levy gave them the perfect
start with two early goals. Former Triage team-mate Jim McGarry
made it three by the break with a free-kick curled around the
wall and into the opposite corner. Daniel Swales continued his
good form by rounding the ‘keeper for another goal before
McGarry scored from his second free-kick of the game. Mark
Hollis completed the scoring with a superbly-executed
scissors-kick as Broadhall Reserves were well beaten.
Dave Jones gave Rileys the lead against the run of play
before Martin Price controlled the ball with his knee and
volleyed it from the corner of the 18 yard box to bring
Yorkshire Grey
level. Lewis Essam put Grey ahead with a long
range shot before Damian Hadlow struck through a crowded penalty
box. Essam then netted with his backside from Hadlow’s corner.
Jones netted another consolation late on.
