Frost Is The Latest Obstacle

If it hasn’t been bad enough with snow and rain wiping out six of the last eight weeks, this week saw a hard Saturday night frost almost wipe out yet another programme, writes Darren “Statto” Jones.

Thankfully, one of the three games that went ahead saw Unity Nirankari's FA National Sunday Cup match against Wycombe Town take place at Flackwell Heath FC. It was bad news for our side on the pitch with Mark Yearwood netting the consolation in a heavy defeat. They can now concentrate on catching up in the Herts Senior Cup as they travel to South Oxhey on Sunday to take on St Josephs for a place in the quarter-finals, where Dun Cow will re-attempt this week.

MBDA moved back into second place in Division Two with a comprehensive win over Stevenage Leisure Ltd on a crispy surface at Barclay School. Craig Sutherill got the scoring underway when he volleyed home brilliantly from Sam Harwood’s clever tee-up. The second was a good finish from Kyle Watson. Harwood himself grabbed the third before Watson’s second made it four at the break. Ben Field pulled one back with a good strike in off the post. However, Sutherill grabbed his first-ever hat-trick for the Club with two more, sandwiching Alan Kenney’s delightful lob from 25 yards. Yours truly even managed a run out for the final 20 minutes with the game sewn up.

Old Town Wetherspoons consolidated fourth against Marquis of Lorne at Shephalbury Park despite falling behind to a Dan Reid goal at the break. Gaz Baker shot home early in the second-half to level and within minutes Ryan Hodgkiss flicked home from a corner at near post to put Spoons in front. A tense finish saw Lorne miss several chances before Baker’s second sewed up the points. The best side won on the day and returned to The Poachers in good spirits.
