Broadhall Set Early Pace
All three Broadhall sides sit proudly at the top of their respective
trees this week, writes Darren “Statto” Jones.
In the Premier Division, champions Dun Cow got their first
win of the campaign as pressure before the break gave them a two
goal lead. However, with their ‘keeper Graham Wraight keeping the
score down considerably, Probuild stormed back to level
through a Barry Greenway brace. Both teams had men sent-off before
Cow strode on to hit four more in the final ten minutes. Lee Wilson
hit a hat-trick, Sam Gittings, Shaun Marshall and Nick Wellings
bagged the others.
Mallard went behind to a Ned Wickham goal for Bedwell
Athletic, but Glenn Lamacraft pulled the ball back for Tom Henry
to tap home the leveller. Lamacraft put them in front with a neat
finish and Lee Noble secured the points with an exquisite 25 yard
free-kick into the top corner.
With
right-back Reece Tyrer helping keep the score
goalless at the break, Bottles took the lead early in the
second-half when Darren Welton tapped in at the back post from Jason
O’Sullivan’s low cross. Unity Nirankari were quickly level
when Scott Orphanou
latched onto a flick over the defence to prod home from ten yards.
They went in through an Andrew
Iwediuno penalty. However, with both
sides reduced to ten men due to violent conduct, Bottles’ hard work
finally paid off when they equalised with five minutes to go when
Piers Le-Grand’s cross found its way to Andrew Yates, arriving late
into the penalty area, to side foot home.
Broadhall’s
good start in Division One continued as John Johnston bagged a brace
on his debut. He was outdone by Martin Wilson, who notched a
hat-trick. Russell Bull was also on target and they benefited from
an own goal. The Shephall Artois reply came from Colin Field
(two) and Alex Welch.
Dun Cow Reserves hit half-a-dozen without reply against
King Pin United. Ryan Jenner (hat-trick), Andy Lane, Steve
Bannister and Mick Simpson did the job.
ProCladd were two-up at-half time thanks to a early own goal
and some good play from Danny Halliday to set up Barry Mullaney to
score. A Dan Manning corner was met by Paul Ricketts to tap home
before Steve Gibbons put away a penalty for Highview.
Halliday netted number four before another assist to supply Manning
with the last as he beat the ‘keeper from just outside the area.
Herts Fencing continued to improve but conceded early against
Stevenage Colts Old Boys. However, Paul Hannington put James
Kelly in at the far post to level by half-time. They dominated after
the break, but failed to put away a hatful of chances. They went
down to ten men due to injury before succumbing to two later goals.
Chris Parker, Danny Liversidge and Jordan Mullen (penalty) were on
target for Colts.
In Division Two, Joe Delasalle went nap to make it eighteen goals in
his three league games as Stevenage Fencing annihilated A1
Trophies. Liam McQueen (two), Craig Gilbert and David Hailey
were also on target.
MBDA also had a big win. Ashley Kersey hit four to make it
double-figures for him for the season. Gary Hodgson had opened the
scoring, whilst Kyle Watson, a Louis Hare header and a rare goal via
Paul Kersey’s head completed the scoring. A Gary Henniker-inspired
Fox did manage two goals from various chances through Jason
Smith and Theo Griffith.
Hartham Press took the lead on four ocassions through an Andy
Black header and a clinical hat-trick from Tony Webb. However, they
had to settle for a point as Old Town Wetherspoons fought
back each time through Gary Baker (two), Richard Marvell and a Mike
Coombes penalty.
A comfortable win for Probuild Reserves against Times Club
saw goals from Ian Woodfield (two), Mark Chittenden, Elliott Bunn,
Matthew Jackson and Dean Allen.
Division Three leaders Broadhall Reserves’ had Steve Fahey to
thank for yet another hat-trick as they beat North Herts Celtic
in an eleven-goal thriller. Mark Chalkley (two), Tom Kelly, Lee
Stokes and Ben Collins were also on the mark. Darren Curry (two) and
Michael Turner replied.
Mallard Old Boys are three points back, but have also won all
their games. Jamie Campany opened the scoring with a well-taken lob
over Richard Pomroy from the edge of the area. The lead was doubled
within minutes of the restart when a through-ball sent Campany away,
his shot was cleared off the line by Ben Storey, only for Glen
Storey to turn home into the roof of the net. Roebuck Gate
netted a consolation when Russ Austin created room for Andy Hall to
drill a shot goalwards that flicked off the boot of Gav Bowler and
flew past Ian Mann.
Athletico Peartree secured their first win of the season as
they came from behind. Breachwood Lions netted through Chris
Anderson as he scrambled the ball over the line.
Terry Lock then cut in, beat two players and rifled the ball home to
get his side on level terms before scoring what turned out to be the
winning goal when he fouled in the box, converting the spot-kick
himself. Just before half-time, Lions
thought they had equalised when Graham French’s free-kick hit the
bar and bounced down, but the referee judged that the ball did not
go over the line.
Ben Collins (two), Lewis Essam,
Steve Whittaker and Chris Tilbrook were on target as Emperors
Head won a goal-fest classic against Chequers, for whom
Gary Gibson (two) and Carl Thompson (two) replied.
Aaron Reed and Dean Chadderton netted as SCS dropped their
first points. Daniel Lewis and Barry Hazleton replied for
Stevenage Colts Old Boys Reserves.
In Division Four, Broadhall 'A'
returned to winning ways against Stevenage Old Town.
Despite Michael Emmings' penalty miss,
the lead was finally taken with a tidy finish by Michael Emmings
from Rob Stevenson's great pass. Paul Hancock headed in Stevenson's
free kick on the hour to double the lead. The game was then
effectively won as Phil Stevens was again brought down for a penalty
for a second time, this time Emmings held his nerve. Twenty minutes
from time, Hancock chased down a lost cause to win the ball to set
up Emmings for his hat-trick.
Coopers
made it two-outta-two thanks to hat-tricks from Gary Chambers and
Dan Auld, aswell as Dan Bowey and Sean Soards strikes. Anthony Rowe
hit a hat-trick in reply, Danny Jones also netted for Marquis
Rangers.
Another strong performance from Bedwell Rangers saw
first-class goals from Jacob Dawson, Nick Thomas and Danny Bacon as
they sit third. Crooked Billet Boro replied through Tom
Glading and Daniel Owers.
The game started badly for
Fairlands
as they were two behind inside five minutes. They created only a
couple of chances in the whole game, but they kept battling to the
end. AFC Chells were well organised in both defence and
attack and put their opponents to the sword, coming up just one
short of twenty. Kyle Davidson
(five), Chris Stead (four), Rob Barton (hat-trick), Alan Bellott
(hat-trick), Michael Brittain (two), Elliott Harvey-Manning and Gary
Watson did the damage.
Highwayman had a big win at White Lion Walkern (Mark
Woods and Ian Bromham). Dave Pateman (two), Bryan Challice (two),
Daniel Corns, Josh Stock and Anthony Ambrose were on target.
In the Frank Neville Memorial Cup, Jason Milburn (two), Ryan
Chilcott (two), James Thomas, Richard Griffiths, Stephen Teale and
Alec Thomas were on target for MH Goldsmith. They easily
turned around a two goal deficit against Stevenage Leisure Ltd,
added to stillfurther by a Jason Drackford brace.
