All Teams Dun Except Cow
Dun Cow FC flew the flag on a dreadful morning for our teams in
County Cup action, writes Darren “Statto” Jones.
The one team who desperately needed to play were waterlogged off
again, but everyone else finally saw action after five weeks
without. Despite full parks in the morning, Unity Nirankari's
FA National Sunday Cup match against Wycombe Town at Hitchin Town's
stadium was postponed yet again due to a waterlogged pitch. Their
schedule is now getting ridiculous. They're two rounds behind in
most of the cups they've entered.
In the Senior Cup, Ian Thorne (two) and Luke Garwood saw Dun Cow
to an impressive win in Enfield against Apoel.
Mallard went two up after fifteen minutes through goals from
Andy Pilgrim and Tim Smith. They were playing really well until Glen
Lamacraft was forced off injured and they had to call on old
warhorse Gary Paulus. Hammer replied with four to turn the game on
it's head before a late Smith consolation.
An overall poor performance from Probuild saw them three down
within ten minutes. Josh Dance pulled one back from the penalty spot
after Rich Hall was fouled. However, three more late on gave S&N
Fairway a comfortable victory.
Bottles were battered at holders Oakview.
Unity Nirankari are also still in the competition, but need to beat
St Josephs (South Oxhey) to reach the last eight with Dun Cow.
In the Intermediate Cup, Dun Cow Reserves cruised through
against Onnett thanks to Pete Brewster (two), James Dillnutt and
Jimmy Erwood.
MBDA are the other survivors, their tie with Flamstead End is on 7th
February.
In the Junior Cup, we lost all interest. Athletico Peartree
crashed out at a strong King Harry/Hare and Hounds team in St
Albans. The conditions were difficult but the home side were better
organised and capitalised on key mistakes. Joe Lucy scored what
turned out to be a consolation goal towards the end of the
first-half but fitness and quality shone through.
Dean Chadderton and Sam Bickerstaff were on target as SCS
were seen off easily by Oaks Reserves.
Just one KLM Challenge Cup tie saw a shock as bottom division side
Coopers belied their status against their Division One
counterparts. They were three up inside fifteen minutes thanks to an
own goal and a Gary Chambers brace. Ben Smith (two) and birthday boy
Dan Bowey (two) finished off Putterills, who replied through
Pete Morrison (two) and Tim Chesworth.
Rumours that Bedwell Athletic are folding were further
enforced as they fielded just seven men against MH Goldsmith.
Considering that, the score-line wasn't as bad as you'd expect and
Joel Mason even managed to get on the scoresheet. Alec Thomas, Ricky
Lawrance, Rich Griffiths, Luke Mitchell and Steve Teale were on
target in victory.
In Division One, King Pin United's passing game proved very
effective early on and Dave Holmes capitalised on some poor marking
to open the scoring. He got a second when James Wyatt broke the
offside trap and squared the ball for him to tap into the empty net.
He was denied a hat-trick by his team-mate Del McGivern when his
strike was flicked up by the latter and over the 'keeper for number
three. Highview bounced back with their only goal of the game
through Nick Wellings. Carl Lingwood and a second from McGivern,
nodding home at the back post from a tight angle, ended the game
before the break. Lingwood despatched a penalty and Dale Chester
rounded things off when Adam Bannister played him in.
Pete Lane, Kieran Hufford, Luke Bennett and Danny Liversidge netted
as Stevenage Colts Old Boys beat Broadhall. Martin
Wilson, John Johnston and Jake Mongston replied.
New signing Jake Banton headed home a Dan Manning cross before James
Tyrer (two) and Paul Ricketts also scored before the break as
ProCladd took control. AFC Crooked Billet had replied
through Tom Bradshaw before Michael Gwilliam's spot-kick after the
break pulled another back. Much to their dismay, Manning scored
straight from the resulting kick-off. Ricketts scored a penalty
before a third penalty of the game saw Billet's effort saved by John
Couldrey. Tyrer completed his hat-trick before Ricketts took his
tally onto five.
Stevenage Fencing stretched their lead at the top of Division
Two as Joe Delasalle hit four goals on his return from an injury
lay-off. Craig Gilbert and Garry Smith also netted. Marquis of
Lorne replied through two Jason Lovelock penalties.
Hartham Press avoided defeat for the second time this year
after playing with less than a full side thanks to big Graeme
Hulstrom’s last minute effort. He’d already netted from a corner
before Mike Wenn took a cross from on the run and volleyed home to
make it two. Ben Field and Chris McCarthy levelled the match for
Stevenage Leisure Ltd before Carl Smith’s return as a substitute
saw him put them in front. A Nathan Bowden volley from outside of
the area levelled again before Field looked to have given SLL the
points before Hulstrom’s intervention after James Khakpour-Smith had
hit the post.
Gary Baker bagged four as Old Town Wetherspoons won an
entertaining game. Matt Keane was also on target, whilst A1
Trophies' replies came from Greg Bradbury, Tallem Dennis and an
own goal.
Dave Sell, Theo Griffith and Jason Smith gave Fox the points
as they leap-frogged Times Club at the bottom. Their
opponents replied through Glenn Armitt and Karl Rickaby.
Mallard Old Boys still head Division Three after yet another
hat-trick from Jamie Campany. Tom Younger, Glen Storey and a forty-yarder
from Alex Lawrence completed the rout. Carl Thompson replied with
his customary goal for Chequers.
Broadhall Reserves are still hot on their heels as Gary
Hillard struck a treble. Mark Chalkley (two), Alex Elmes (two) and
Steve Fahey also netted against North Herts Celtic. Sam
Lemoir hit a consolation.
Ollie Mason (two) and the evergreen George Harrison were on target
as Breachwood Lions grabbed a rare point. Lewis Sealy (two)
and Chris Tillbrook replied for Emperors Head.
Dean Page and James Hucker were on the mark for Stevenage Colts
Old Boys Reserves against Roebuck Gate, for whom Mark
Edwards replied.
The top game in Division Four was as tight as it was expected to be.
The game saw league leaders Broadhall A's most solid
performance of the season and they defended brilliantly throughout
the team. Previously high-scoring Bedwell Rangers were denied
any worthwhile chances and the only goal came on the half-hour.
Picking the ball up just outside the area, Matt Henning found
himself some space to curl a shot of real finesse beyond the
‘keeper's outstretched hand for a fantastic goal as Broadhall moved
six clear.
Fairlands' vast improvement of late was evident again as they
gave the team that previously beat them 19-0 a real game. They even
led through Dan Kilby inside five minutes. AFC Chells turned
the game around with a Rob Barton brace before an equaliser from
Alex Goodson. Two more gave Chells the points before another Kilby
strike and Barton completed his hat-trick from the penalty spot.
Just ten weeks after breaking three bones in his leg, Bryan Challice
followed up a goal for his Saturday side with one for Highwayman
in their comfortable win over Crooked Billet Boro. Also on
target were Cory Cooper and Gordon Garrett. Rob Smith replied.
Paul Ingram-Tedd, Marc Stobart and Matt Woods gave White Lion
Walkern the points against Stevenage Old Town, for whom
Paul Smith replied.
In the Frank Neville Memorial Cup, current holders Probuild
Reserves had a terrific win over Shephall Artois,
regardless of their one-goal start. Matthew Jackson, Ian Woodfield
and Lee Gribben netted, whilst their fourth on the day came from
Scott "Monkey" Walker , who was made captain against his old club
and obviously forgot he’d left them by netting with a looping header
for an own goal. Colin Field replied.
Last seasons' runners-up MBDA hit a dozen thanks to Kyle
Watson (five), Ashley kersey (three), Gary Hodgson (two), Sam
Harwood and Phil Fisher. Marquis Rangers' reply was an
equaliser on the day and the best goal of the game, a beautiful
free-kick from Kieran Webb for the pink army past a statuesque Liam
Boon.
