Nirankari Cup Bandwagon Rolls On
In the only game played over the past three Sundays, Unity
Nirankari made it through to the next round of the Herts Senior
Cup on Sunday, writes Darren “Statto” Jones.
In a game played on a “3G” (3rd generation synthetic) pitch at
Knights Templar School in Baldock, Unity started brightly and
created some good chances. However it was to be a freak goal which
gave them the lead when goalkeeper Jarell Stratton scored from his
own area. The ball flew into the net as the bounce deceived his
opposite number. They allowed Welwyn Peartree back into the game
from a set piece, the comeback was to be short lived as the ‘home’
side upped the pace, Leon Palma split the defence and picked out
Luke Croll with a pin-point crossfield pass, Croll controlled and
finished well leaving the ‘keeper with no chance for a 2-1 half-time
lead. They continued to apply sustained pressure during the
second-half and killed the game off in the 75th minute when Palma
went on a mazy run into the box, cutting the ball back to Andrew
Iweduino, who finished with a low drive into the bottom corner.
They’re due to play in the National Cup this Sunday, before picking
up with the County Cup again.
This is the usual time of the year when games are called off, cup
games are already behind schedule, it could get worse.
